Recycling
The fact is, most of the trash we all produce makes its way from the transfer station to the landfill. But much of what we throw away can be reclaimed and used again, reducing the burden on disposal sites and extending their useful life. More importantly, recycling is a form of waste management in which everyone can do their part.
Most of us are familiar with the basics, and that we've been recycling things like aluminum cans, glass, newspaper and plastic for decades. But what you may not realize is how recycling affects our lives every day in remarkable ways.
A renewable source of energy—electricity—can be generated from the methane gas being produced and collected at the landfill. Gas regeneration projects lead to cleaner air, including reductions in smog, odor, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The organic residuals produced at paper mills—waste that would normally end up in the landfill—can be turned into natural soil amendments used to fertilize and grow gardens, parks and athletic fields
We help keep families warm by turning recycled paper—about 350,000 tons a year—into cellulose insulation. It's processed through a patented system that treats it for fire retardation, so it's safe and reduces energy costs.
Our recent implementation of optical sorting will enable us to do more effectively seperate recyclables—directly supporting our efforts to develop single stream recycling and making it easier—every day—for our customers to fully participate in municipal and local recycling programs.
