One Pledge, One Child, One Book
The VPR Pledge Drive
Casella is partnered with Vermont Public Radio and the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) to give books to our local children. When you donate to VPR’s May pledge drive, Casella makes it possible for CLiF to deliver a new book to a child in need.
We are very excited to be a part of this wonderful endeavor in partnership with CLiF and VPR. We believe that nothing should be wasted and that every child should have the opportunity to explore their own creativity and pursuit of knowledge to the fullest extent possible. This partnership ensures for a few thousand children, that their pursuit is supported.
Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF)
The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) is a non-profit based in Waterbury Center, VT. For 13 years CLiF has nurtured a love of reading and writing among low-income, at-risk, and rural children throughout New Hampshire and Vermont. CLiF operates 16 free literacy programs that have touched the lives of more than 100,000 children from birth to age 12 across the Twin States. CLiF’s 60 professional presenters provide inspiring author visits, three-day writing workshops, seminars, storytelling, and thousands of new, high-quality children’s books to children in homeless shelters, low-income housing, mobile home parks, rural communities, as well as to refugee children, migrant children, children of prison inmates, children visiting food shelves, and many others. CLiF’s goal is best described by its motto: “Opening Books, Opening Minds, Opening Doors.” CLiF has never received any state or federal funds. It relies entirely on community support.
