On August 17-18, 2008, Casella hosted the Annual Casella Jimmy Fund Golf Classic to benefit the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute for the fifth year.
The event, formally known as the Robert K. Goodman Memorial Golf Tournament, began in 1975 in honor and remembrance of Bobby Goodman who succumbed to leukemia at the age of seventeen.
Hosted by Casella for the last five years, the tournament has raised almost a quarter million dollars in support of cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Thanks to the groundbreaking research and development at Dana Farber, the overall cure rates for children’s cancers have reached more than 75% and up to 90% for some forms of the disease.
“Over the years that the Jimmy Fund has had an organized golf program, the golfing community has been incredibly supportive and has helped to raise more than $42 million for cutting edge research and care at Dana-Farber,” says Mike Andrews, chairman of the Jimmy Fund.
This two day event included: a reception on Sunday, August 17th at the Marriott Sable Oaks in South Portland, Maine featuring live and silent auctions, entertainment by Bob Marley, and special guest appearances, including racecar driver Peyton Sellers; and two flights of golf on Monday, August 18th at the Woodlands Club in Falmouth, Maine.
Since 1983, the Jimmy Fund Golf Program has provided men and women the opportunity to support critical cancer research and patient care through participation in the Jimmy Fund Golf Program.
