Earthlife Products

Agrocarb-FL
is a high-quality, natural agricultural lime product used to condition and enrich agricultural soils. Produced in a mining operation in central Vermont, Agrocarb-FL is created from processing natural marble ore into ground calcium carbonate; that is further processed into a fine textured liming agent with a median particle size of 20 microns. This unique fine texture allows Agrocarb-FL to quickly react in soil and to serve as a valuable substitute for commercial agricultural lime.

Algefiber
is derived from red seaweed. The carrageenan found in this sea vegetable is an ingredient used in food, health, and personal care products. Algefiber®, the byproduct of extracting carrageenan, contains organic matter and perlite and has a physical consistency similar to that of store-bought brown sugar. It is used to increase soil pH, as well as provide calcium, magnesium, and organic matter. Additionally, the plant hormones naturally present in seaweed have been shown to help increase plant root development and promote crop growth.

Fertilimer - Chateaugay, NY
is a lime-enhanced soil conditioner produced at our Grasslands facility in Chateaugay, New York. Fertilimer production starts with bioset advanced technology, which manages the exothermic reaction when quicklime is blended with dewatered biosolids. This reaction generates significant amounts of heat, which serves to effectively pasteurize Fertilimer and create a Class A product that enhances soil by offering high nutrient value and lime equivalence.

Fiberbed
is Casella Organics’ patented animal bedding blend of paper-mill byproducts, wood ash, and green sawdust. This special formula is an effective alternative to sawdust and shavings, which are becoming increasingly costly and hard to obtain.

Fibergro
is produced as virgin wood pulp is processed into tissue paper. The resulting byproduct from this process, Fibergro, consists primarily of short paper fibers and nitrogen. Use of this product—which has high organic content and is free of weed –seed—is a cost-effective way to improve soil condition and health. Fibergro has been used on agricultural soils since 1989, with proven ability to enhance soil structure, improve soil aggregation, and minimize soil compaction. Fibergro is also valuable when added to topsoil, improving organic matter levels and providing a source of slow-release nitrogen.

Lime Grit
is a coarse lime byproduct of the precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) production process. PCC is used as a whitener in paper mills. The coarse nature of Lime Grit provides a gradual release of lime value over time. It is ideal for maintaining optimum pH levels in well-managed fields and sweetening the soil of fields.

Mill Lime
consists of calcium carbonate that is converted from quick lime in the kiln of a Maine paper mill. Mill Lime can be distributed with typical fertilizer spreading equipment.

Poultry Litter
This is approved for organic use and is an excellent source of nutrients that can be incorporated into most fertilizer programs. The key to successful management is to match the nutritional requirements of the crop with nutrients available in Poultry Litter and supplemental fertilizers.

Wood Ash
This emerges from the combustion of clean wood and bark to produce electricity. The resulting product is a soil amendment ideal for balancing soil pH and enhancing nutrient levels. Wood Ash contains significant amounts of magnesium, potassium, and many other micro-nutrients important to healthy crop growth. Since 1983, earthlife® Wood Ash has been chosen by farmers to increase soil pH, improve soil fertility, and increase crop yield. Wood Ash is easily applied with conventional lime- or manure-spreading equipment.

Biofilter Media
We offer more than 20 years’ experience in manufacturing custom-blended biofilter and odor-control filter media using a careful selection of wood chips, root mulch, bark, and compost. This experience ensures that your biofilter media are optimized for pH, porosity, particle size, microbial count, and overall performance. Our experience also serves you in the placement and maintenance of odor-control media for applications that include wastewater treatment, composting, and manufacturing.

BioMix Manufactured Topsoil
is highly resistant to erosion. BioMix ingredients are Fiberlime (short paper fiber), compost, and a mineral-based soil—most of which we source from residual streams and that would otherwise go to waste. Most cost-effective is when an end user can provide a suitable base soil (mineral sand or a low-quality loam); then, we provide the Fiberlime and compost, recipe blend recommendations, and technical assistance to mix the blend onsite.

Bioremediation Amendments
are both affordable and effective. earthlife® compost can remediate soils of hydrocarbons, wood preservatives, solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, petroleum products, and other contaminants using natural microbial activity.

Bioretention Cell Amendments
The amendments manage run-off with a bioretention cell or raingarden. These effective alternatives to large detention basins offer many benefits to water quality, aesthetics, and wildlife. Materials high in organic matter play a vital role in success, and we can help you custom-select the right ingredients for your specific design and application.

Erosion Control Mix
is a chunky blend of forest soil, bark, sand and coarse stone (<3”). These natural ingredients are washed off logs in a concrete water flume, then processed to our specifications. Since 1990, Erosion Control Mix has been used extensively to stabilize slopes, minimize nutrient run-off, and protect water quality.

Gro-max
This multipurpose product is made from horticultural-grade ingredients including Maine blond sphagnum peat, earthlife® Premium Compost, and earthlife® Superhumus. This unique formulation creates a high-organic, nutrient-balanced planting medium designed to optimize soil health, root growth, and plant response. Gro-Max provides the proper particle size, moisture retention, and essential nutrients needed to ensure lush green foliage and bright flowers.

Hingham Compost
When it comes to providing lush new life to soil, turf, and plants, earthlife® Hingham Compost is the leader in the field, thanks to its nutrient rich organic matter. It’s the foundation of our company and a valuable investment in yours. Our customers choose earthlife® Compost for its unique ability to fortify soil and, ultimately, to improve the soil’s long-term health.

Johnston Compost
This material consists of leaves and grass that are blended, ground up, and then, through a natural process, heated to kill dormant weed seeds. Windrows, monitored regularly for temperature and moisture level, are rotated using a commercial windrow turner. This advanced process finishes the compost, resulting in a stable, mature product that can be relied upon for consistent quality, rich organic matter, and valuable slow-release nutrients.

Super-Mulch™
improves any landscape with its superior formulation. Manufactured from aged native Maine bark and earthlife® compost, its dark color and rich texture are ideal for perennials, ornamentals, and the areas around trees and shrubs. Super-Mulch is nutrient-stabilized with compost, so the bark no longer competes with plants for nutrients. And unlike conventional bark mulches, there is no need to remove Super-Mulch prior to the next application. Simply rake into soil and re-mulch.

Super-peat
This material is a custom blend of Sphagnum Peat and earthlife® premium compost. It offers the soil-enhancing and moisture-holding benefits of peat with the microbial life and slow-release nutrients of compost. Super-peat meets USGA specifications and is ideal for gardens, planting beds, and growing perennials.

Forest Humus
Unique in the landscape industry, Forest Humus is comprised of a blend of forest soil, fine bark, organic matter, sand, and fine stone. These natural ingredients are washed off logs in a wood yard water flume in Jay, Maine. Forest Humus is screened (<7/8”) and has been used extensively since 1990 as potting mix, park and trail mulch, and slope stabilizer, as well as an amendment for heavy soils.
