Career Opportunities

These environmental and engineering roles are central to Casella’s commitment to responsible resource management—ensuring that our operations meet regulatory standards, protect natural systems, and support the development of sustainable infrastructure.

Landfill Environmental Technician

At Casella, the Landfill Environmental Technician plays a vital role in ensuring environmental compliance and operational efficiency across our landfill sites. This technician is responsible for monitoring and maintaining water, leachate, and gas systems, applying environmental and engineering principles to operate, test, and regulate equipment in accordance with federal and state guidelines.

Technicians diagnose and repair system irregularities; manage SCADA systems, transducers, and variable frequency drives; and contribute to the design and construction of new systems. Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to safety and sustainability are all essential. The role also involves implementing preventative maintenance plans, and it requires a solid understanding of engineering concepts related to landfill gas systems, headers, and laterals. Excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a team-oriented mindset are key to success. Casella offers clear career advancement opportunities through a tiered technician structure, including Technician I, II, III, and Senior levels.

Construction Engineer

The Construction Engineer is responsible for planning and overseeing major development projects, including landfill expansion and capping, building construction, and environmental remediation projects. The incumbent will work with internal and third-party engineering teams to complete engineering designs, prepare bid and contract packages, procure materials, and manage field construction and quality assurance activities for assigned projects.

Environmental Compliance

Environmental Compliance Professionals at Casella are responsible for ensuring environmental compliance and managing permit requirements across assigned locations. Acting as local technical experts, they apply engineering and environmental principles to prepare reports, conduct audits and inspections, analyze samples, and investigate incidents or complaints, recommending corrective actions as needed. These professionals demonstrate strong regulatory knowledge and proficiency in obtaining and maintaining permits, and they may dedicate up to 20% of their time to regulatory affairs. They provide guidance to Environmental Analysts and Managers, serving as key liaisons between Casella and regulatory agencies.

Success in this role requires the ability to build strong partnerships with division, regional, and corporate leaders, and to thrive in a collaborative team environment. Candidates must possess a deep understanding of environmental laws and regulations, a commitment to safety and sustainability, and excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Casella supports career growth through a structured advancement path from Analyst to Regional Manager, offering opportunities to take on increased responsibility and projects of expanding complexity.
