All You Need to Know About

Make sure to put your Collegeville Borough trash & recycle carts curbside Monday evening for early morning Tuesday pick-up.

  • Service is cart only – additional will not be taken.

  • Only the carts issued by the Borough can be used.

  • Your carts should be at least 3 feet clear of any other objects including other carts, mailboxes, cars, street signs, etc.

  • Wheels on your cart should be toward the house so that all materials are emptied.

  • Carts should be as close to the curb as possible but no further than six feet away from the curb edge.

  • we ask that you do not park in front of your containers on collection days.

  • Be sure trash is bagged and lids are closed to prevent spills.

We cannot take:

  • Hazardous waste including radioactive, reactive, toxic, ignitable, corrosive, or acidic items.

Any residence may get a 2nd cart (maximum 2 waste or recycle carts total per residence).

Subject to a one-time charge of $95.

There is no additional monthly cost for a 2nd cart.

The Township will not exchange used trash carts or recycle carts for new ones.

Carts are property of the township.

Large Item Removal Bulk Service

To ensure proper pick up, all bulk items must be scheduled in advance by contacting the office by noon on Monday.

Learn How to Dispose Yard Waste and Leaves

The most environmentally correct way to dispose of leaves is to utilize the borough’s compost site.

Collegeville Borough, along with Trappe Borough, operate a compost site on West Seventh Avenue in Trappe. Residents of the two Boroughs may drop off yard waste at the compost site free of charge.


Drop-Off

The facility accepts leaves, grass trimmings, branches, twigs, weeds and other general biodegradable yard waste.

  • Questions about hours of operation or acceptable waste can directed to Public Works Department at 610.489.2831.


Curbside Pick-Up

Curbside leaf collection occurs annually.

Please check the Borough of Collegeville’s “Bulletin Board” for the annual date.

  • Only leaves will be collected. Grass clippings, twigs and other yard waste will not be collected.

  • Leaves must be placed in biodegradable paper yard waste bags.

  • Bags must be curbside for collection.


Christmas Trees

  • Trees from Christmas 2025 will be picked up: Saturday January 10th, 2026.

  • Trees over 6′ tall should be cut in half.

  • All decorations must be removed.

  • Do not bag trees for pick up.

What can I throw away?

Only bagged household trash can be put in your trash container. Please do not put loose trash into your trash cart. Do not place recyclable materials, construction refuse, yard waste, demolition refuse or hazardous materials in your cart.

Can I use another container?

If a resident believes they’ll need an additional 95-gallon cart they’ll be able to lease a second cart at their expense at cost of the container.

Only the carts issued by the Borough can be used.

Trash left outside the carts will not be collected.

What can I recycle?

Place recyclables loose and directly into your recycling cart.

Do not place trash materials, construction refuse, yard waste, demolition refuse or hazardous materials into your recycling cart.

If I move, do I take the cart with me?

No. The cart is the property of the Borough of Collegeville and is assigned to each street address by means of a unique serial number. If you move, please leave the cart at your home. Please do not write house numbers or put any other markings on the carts.

Can I write my name and address on the wheeled trash carts?

No. The automated carts are the property of the Borough and therefore no resident shall write on, placestickers upon, or deface the carts in any way.

I already own a similar cart; can I use it instead?

No. The carts delivered to you are designed to withstand the pressure placed on them by the collection equipment when the cart is being emptied.

I am moving into a brand-new home in Collegeville; How do I get trash and recycling carts?

Apply for a new cart at the Borough Hall during normal business hours. Once your information isobtained, collection cart(s) will be assigned and delivered.

What should I do with my old trash cans?

We recommend repurposing your old trash containers for use around the house for other storage needs.

If you do not wish to keep your old trash container, plastic trash containers can be placed into the automated collection carts for disposal. Metal containers (empty) can be left curbside marked “For Trash” for one-time collection by our truck. Please do not place metal trash containers in the carts for disposal.
