  • Separate food waste from regular trash: Use the designated container provided to you for food scraps.

  • Include the items that are listed as acceptable material on the poster.

  • Keep your bin clean: Rinse it regularly and use newspaper or cardboard to absorb moisture.

  • Freeze smelly items like meat or fish scraps until collection day to reduce odors.

Food Waste Recycling: What Not to Do

  • Don’t include non-food items: No plastic, glass, metal, or Styrofoam.

  • Don’t use regular plastic bags and put scraps directly into your bin: They contaminate the composting process.

  • Don’t add pet waste or diapers: These are not compostable in food waste systems.

  • Don’t overfill your bin: Keep the lid closed to avoid pests and spills.
