Dos and Don’ts of Food Waste Recycling
Food Waste Recycling: What to Do
Do separate food waste from regular trash: Use the designated container provided to you for food scraps.
Do include the items listed as acceptable materials on the poster.
Do keep your bin clean: Rinse it regularly and use newspaper or cardboard to absorb moisture.
Do freeze smelly items like meat or fish scraps until collection day to reduce odors.
Food Waste Recycling: What Not to Do
Don’t include non-food items: No plastic, glass, metal, or Styrofoam.
Don’t use regular plastic bags and put scraps directly into your bin: They contaminate the composting process.
Don’t add pet waste or diapers: These are not compostable in food waste systems.
Don’t overfill your bin: Keep the lid closed to avoid pests and spills.
