Landfill Environmental Technicians

The Landfill Environmental Technician is responsible for performing environmental monitoring of water, leachate, and gas systems. The incumbent will apply environmental and engineering principles to modify, test, regulate, and operate equipment and systems used in the operation and regulation of gas systems, leachate collection and ground water testing to ensure daily operations and testing meet federal and state guidelines.

Level I: Has 0-2 years of experience working in landfill operations and system maintenance. Demonstrates a basic level of knowledge and understanding of landfill systems and comprehension of the diagnosis and repair of system irregularities. Demonstrates an understanding of the system controls including SCADA systems, Transducers, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD).  

Level II: Has 2-4 years of experience working in landfill operations and system maintenance. Demonstrates a solid understanding of the diagnosis and repair of system malfunctions. Demonstrates an ability to take charge of systems and manage the operation of them. Collaborates with the landfill team in the design and construction of new systems and implements and manages a preventative maintenance plan. 

Level III: Has 4-6 years of experience working in landfill operations and system maintenance. Demonstrates an advanced understanding of the diagnosis and repair of system malfunctions. Has the ability to manage the operations of systems, diagnose malfunctions and make some repairs, referring more advanced issues to a senior technician. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the engineering concepts involved in designing and installing the gas systems, headers, and laterals at the landfill. Is working to obtain a degree in Environmental Science, Geological Sciences, or other related degree or certificate. 

Senior: Has 6+ years of experience working in landfill operations and system maintenance. Demonstrates an expert level understanding of the operations of the collections systems and the diagnosis and repair of malfunctions. Understands higher level engineering concepts involved in designing and installing the gas systems, headers, and laterals at the landfill. Assists in training and mentoring level I and II technicians and communicates effectively with management regarding system operations. Degree in Environmental Science, Geological Sciences or other related degree or certificate and/or equivalent in years of progressive experience desired.

Construction Engineer

The Construction Engineer is responsible for planning and overseeing major development projects, including landfill expansion and capping, building construction, and environmental remediation projects. The incumbent will work with internal and third-party engineering teams to complete engineering designs, prepare bid and contract packages, procure materials, and manage field construction and quality assurance activities for assigned projects.

Environmental Compliance

These positions are responsible for maintaining environmental compliance and permit requirements and acting as the local technical expert with regards to engineering and environmental concepts for assigned locations. The incumbent will apply engineering principles to prepare technical reports, conduct periodic tests, audits, or inspections of organizational processes, collect, and analyze samples, investigate incidents and complaints, and recommend corrective action as necessary.

Analyst: Has 1-4 years of progressive experience in solid waste or related environmental industry. Demonstrates solid understanding of compliance and an ability to manage time and resources to meet permitting and regulatory deadlines.

Manager: Has 4-8 years of progressive experience in solid waste, civil/environmental engineering, or related environmental industry. Demonstrates a strong knowledge of compliance, proficiency in obtaining and maintaining permits for assigned locations, and a working knowledge of regulatory affairs. May spend as much as 20% of the job working on regulatory affairs. Exhibits an ability to take on increasing responsibility and additional locations with more complexity. Oversees and provides guidance to Environmental Analysts within assigned locations. Is skilled at building key partnerships with division, location, and corporate leaders.

Regional Manager: 8-10+ years of progressive experience in solid waste, civil/environmental engineering, or related environmental industry. Serves as a leader of authority with expert level knowledge of company procedures and state regulations. Communicates technical information in public meetings, internal training, and industry conferences. Manages internal and external resources for multidisciplinary projects spanning multiple years. Responsible for overseeing and maintaining permitting, compliance, engineering, and regulatory affairs for facilities with complex operations within an assigned region of the company. May spend as much time as 20-40% of the job working on regulatory and legislative affairs. Oversees and provides guidance to Analysts and Managers within assigned region. Serves as a liaison between the organization and regulatory agencies. Is skilled at building key partnerships with division, location, region, and corporate leaders.
