When will I receive my cart? I didn’t get one, didn’t get enough, or received too many.
Please be patient. Initial cart distribution begins on the 23rd and is handled by a third party using a pre-established list of addresses and quantities based on Town data. As you can imagine, this information isn’t always perfect—new homes are built, single-family homes are converted to multi-units, and new roads may be missed. And of course, we’re all human.
If your neighbors on both sides received a cart and you did not, please call 800-CASELLA. We’ll work with the Town to add you to the punch list for follow-up deliveries. Similarly, if you received too many or too few carts, let us know and we’ll resolve the issue.
What if my lid is warped or a wheel fell off?
Lids may appear bent when delivered due to stacking in tractor trailers. Don’t worry—once exposed to sunlight, the plastic will relax into its natural shape.
If a wheel comes loose, it may not have been fully secured. Try placing it back on the axle and applying firm pressure until the tabs lock it in place. If that doesn’t work, contact us and we’ll replace the wheel.
Is there a smaller cart available?
Yes. Households on town-maintained roads receive a 96-gallon cart by default. After deployment, you may request a smaller 64-gallon cart for a $25 swap fee.
The larger cart is only slightly heavier and, thanks to its larger wheels, is easier to maneuver. It also provides extra capacity during holidays or vacations.
We encourage you to try the larger cart for a few weeks—most people who initially prefer a smaller one end up keeping the larger size.
Is there a larger cart available?
Additional carts can be ordered after deployment. However, nearby communities show less than 1–2% participation in this option.
Before requesting one, try breaking down bulky items like gallon jugs, cereal boxes, and cardboard. Also, take advantage of the Town’s cardboard recycling program at the Town Office.
The fee for an additional cart is $365 per year (or $1/day, prorated to the Town’s fiscal year starting July 1). To request one, contact your Town Office.
Why must the lid be closed?
Safety – Loose material can fall onto the truck or into traffic when the cart is lifted, posing a risk to drivers and pedestrians. It can also be a fire hazard if it lands on the truck’s exhaust.
Public Health – Closed lids help prevent wind-blown litter, deter wildlife like raccoons and birds, and reduce the chance of material freezing to the bottom of the cart in winter.
How well do the carts work in snow?
Much better than bags. The large wheels make them easier to move, and the mechanical arm can lift carts even when surrounded by snow. No more white bags lost in snowbanks!
Can I label my cart with my address?
Yes, but only on the lid. Use a paint pen or permanent marker. Please do not mark the body of the cart.
What should I do with all my cardboard?
Recycle it! The Town Office has a drop-off container for cardboard. If placing it in your cart, break it down to fit with the lid closed. Oversized pieces should be cut into 2' x 2' squares to ensure they empty properly during collection.
What should I do with my old containers?
Repurpose them! Many people use them for bottles, cans, yard waste, salt, sand, or storage. If you prefer to discard them, a large roll-off container will be available at the Town Office after collection begins.
What should I do with old tires?
Recycle them. Most tire retailers charge a disposal fee when you buy new tires. If disposing of them yourself, some private transfer stations accept them for a fee.
What about holiday wrapping paper?
We’ve got you covered. After the holidays, a large dumpster will be available at the Town Office or Transfer Station for wrapping paper, ribbons, and similar materials.
